== Chapter 9000: Illusion Fabric ==

He stood in the middle of a broken road with a sword veiled in blood. Occasionally a drop of it fell towards the dirty below. All around him stood burning, hollowed-out infrastructures. It was a blazing ghost town- completely devoid of human life- except for him and his adversary.

His name was Axel Garden. He looked rather mature for a 17-year-old. Tanned skin, medium build, brushy brown hair, and the slightest hint of facial hair. His raggedy garbs blew whippingly in the dusty wind.

A few yards in front of him stood Empire Vigoraci. A few years older, he was also taller and had pale skin. His spiky blond hair stood high above his head, unmoved by the passionate gale riding up and down the street. His dress was a black muscle shirt with a matching pair of navy blue jeans.

“The Vicious 9000 stays with me, Axel.” Empire called across the valley.

“What gives you the right to take something that is no way yours?” asked Axel.

Empire scoffed, “She left the responsibilities of the Vicious 9000 to her friends and family, but not one of you could keep it safe from any power-hungry fiends.”

Axel scowled, “Don’t pretend like you’re not one of them.”

“I have nothing but benevolent plans for the device.” said Empire, “Most of these other guys would rather use it to rain wrath on those who oppose them. I just want it to gain more power- to defend it better.”

“Even if you’re the best bodyguard for Vicious 9000,” said Axel, “it still doesn’t belong to you. Hand it over, or I’ll have to fight you.”

Empire grinned, “We both know that I tower above you in strength. Here’s what’s going to happen: I’m going to cut you in half, you’re going to wake up in the animal world of yours, you’re going to fool around with that wolf girl you’re in love with, and I’m going to go home and play SimCity.”

Axel clapped his left wrist, summoning a turquoise broadsword within his fist in a flash of white light. Because that’s how you summon broadswords sometimes in life- by slapping your wrist.

Empire stuck out his arm. Standing silent for a few seconds, a large and wide blade fell out of the sky and blinding speeds. To normal eyes, it looks like a giant sword just appeared in Empire’s hand, standing upwards. The young man appeared unshaken by the sword’s kinetic force.

Axel looked at Empire’s massive sword. He smiled, “Are you-?”

“Yes.” Empire interrupted, “I’m compensating for the fact I have a small penis. Maybe one of these days I should beat you unconscious with it instead.”

They both grew silent.

After ten seconds, Axel spoke, “Well…?”

He was calling for Empire to make a move. Empire didn’t.

“Well…” Empire echoed.

Empire wasn’t going to do anything. Axel decided to take the initiative and began running towards his opponent.

But before Axel got a few meters, Empire suddenly disappeared.

Then… “''Ack!''”

Axel was struck from the side. The massive blade knocked him off the ground and while still airborne, he once again felt the painful sensation of getting sliced down his body. Two times Axel had been struck, and the third slash was enough to send his shield reserves into malfunction.

Axel could feel his body disintegrating. Empire watched onward as his foe vanished in a growing pillar of light.

As Axel’s body sank into a glow, Empire could hear Axel’s voice speaking to him, “You’re a real asshole, ya know that?”

Empire chuckled, “And you don’t know when to quit.”

The light vanished. Axel was gone. Once again, Axel had failed to defeat Empire and take the Vicious 9000 back.

God help us all.
