Paul took a deep breath. His heart was pounding again, just like it had right before he had traded himself to Tocsin. All his work over the last few hours had been leading up to this one moment—and just as with Tocsin, he was about to lose another degree of freedom. But this one couldn’t be as neatly measured out as a five-month prison term. This could very well be for life.

This never really made sense to me. Paul only agreed to stay at AlphaCamp for five months. I think if Fenris tried to hold on to him longer than that against his will, AlphaWolf and/or Tocsin would intervene, since they promised to get him back at the end of his term.

This also meant that “stupid RIDE tricks” like eating and drinking through the RIDE’s head weren’t going to be possible with Fenris.

Why wouldn't fenris have a tube (basically an esophagus) to take food from his mouth down and into the human's stomach? It doesn't seem all that hard to implement, and isn't being able to eat in fuse an essential desert survival ability?
