Category:Modern magic

Stories in the "modern magic" genre feature a setting that's close to or indistinguishable from the current-day 'real' world, but in which some sort of magical effects are possible. This would include such things as the Xanadu setting, where magic suddenly shows up out of "nowhere", but not alternate histories where magic has always been widely known and has deeply influenced the development of society.

This genre isn't normally a very common one outside of TF fandom, but it's common enough in TF fandom that it seems awkward trying to lump such things in with more traditional fantasy.
